A Day Out at Hopton Court Estate

Picture this: a crisp January day, a car packed with kids, snacks, and the unmistakable buzz of excitement. That was us this morning, heading to the stunning Hopton Court Estate. When you mix family time with a dash of wedding venue magic, you know it’s going to be a day to remember—and spoiler alert, it totally was.

First Impressions: A Hidden Gem

If you’ve never been to Hopton Court Estate, let me tell you—it’s like stumbling into a secret fairytale. Driving up to the estate, we were greeted by rolling hills, historic architecture, and that quiet kind of grandeur that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a period drama. My partner was in awe, the kids were planning a game of hide-and-seek before we’d even parked, and I was already imagining the dreamy weddings I’d photograph here.

Exploring as a Family

Now, let’s be real—taking kids to scope out a wedding venue is always a gamble. But Hopton Court is one of those rare places that’s as family-friendly as it is beautiful. While I wandered around picturing couples saying their “I dos” under the estate’s breathtaking arches, the kids were busy exploring the gardens. They had a blast spotting wildlife and running through the open spaces (bonus points for fresh air-induced naps later).

My partner, ever the supportive trooper, was snapping photos of me snapping photos. He even managed to keep the kids occupied with a game of “find the fanciest tree,” which turned out to be surprisingly competitive.

Why Hopton Court Stands Out

As a wedding photographer, I’ve been to my fair share of venues, but Hopton Court Estate feels special. It’s not just the picture-perfect setting (although trust me, there’s no shortage of those). It’s the way the space feels alive—like it has a story to tell. Whether it’s a grand indoor ceremony in the stately rooms or an outdoor celebration in the sprawling grounds, there’s a warmth and versatility to the estate that makes it truly unique.

Plus, the light! Oh, the light! Photographers dream of that soft, golden glow filtering through trees, and Hopton Court has it in spades. I was practically excited, pointing out spots to my partner like, “Imagine a couple here!” or “This is the perfect spot for golden hour shots.” He humored me, as always.

Making Memories

While the trip was technically “work,” it ended up being so much more. There’s something about exploring a beautiful venue with the people you love that makes the day feel extra special. The kids got to see a little slice of what I do, my partner got his steps in chasing after them, and I left feeling inspired and ready to capture magical moments for future couples.

As we drove home (kids snoozing in the backseat, result!), I couldn’t stop smiling. Hopton Court isn’t just a venue—it’s a canvas for love stories, a place where memories are made. And today, we made a few of our own.
